Men's Hockey falls 2-1 at Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – RIT first-year goaltender Jakub Krbecek made a career-high 44 saves in a 2-1 loss at Bowling Green, Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bowling Green opened the scoring at 8:03 of the first. Ben Doran had a shot from the point blocked up into the air that came down to Brody Waters in the left faceoff circle. Waters skated across the slot and turned to score on a shot inside the left post.
- Following a scoreless second, RIT tied the game at 5:25 of the third. Bowling Green possessed the puck low in the Tiger zone, but an errant pass came out into the neutral zone. Sophomore forward Kevin Marx-Norén beat a Falcon player to the puck along the left boards and skated back to beat Falcon goaltender Christian Stoever on a shot from the left slot, glove side.
- Bowling Green retook the lead at 11:16. RIT cleared a puck out of its zone but Ryan O'Hara retook possession in the neutral zone and skated back to the right faceoff circle. O'Hara squared up in front of a Tiger defender and scored on a shot under Krbecek who was partially screened.
GAME NOTES
- Krbecek eclipsed the 43-saves he made in the Tigers' 2-1 overtime loss to Bowling Green (Oct. 19) in a game played at Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester. He also made the most saves by a RIT goalie since Tommy Scarfone was credited with a career-high 46 stops in a 1-1 tie versus St. Lawrence (1/26/24) last winter.
- Marx-Norén notched his first point in a Tiger jersey. He also became the 22nd of 23 skaters to log a point this season and 18th to score a goal.
- The Falcons finished with a 46-20 shot advantage, including a 27-6 margin in the first as Krbecek made 26 saves.
- Sophomore forward Tyler Fukakusa had a team-best eight-game point streak snapped, but won 16-of-24 faceoffs for his ninth-consecutive game with double-digit faceoff wins.
- Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
- RIT blocked 11 shots, including a career-high three by junior forward Philippe Jacques.
