Men's Hockey falls to visiting Holy Cross, 9-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Men's Hockey team lost a 9-2 Atlantic Hockey America decision to visiting Holy Cross, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Holy Cross scored 2:19 into the game before taking a 3-0 lead with 10:56 left in the first period.
  • RIT got on the board at 15:31 after sophomore forward Matthew Wilde redirected a shot by sophomore forward Tyler Fukakusa from the point over Holy Cross goaltender Thomas Gale's glove.
  • The Crusaders answered 27 seconds later before tacking on three goals during a five-minute major on the Tigers to build a 7-1 lead at the first intermission.
  • Holy Cross scored the lone goal of the second period and then tallied 2:26 into the third for a 9-1 lead.
  • RIT senior forward Grady Hobbs finished a shorthanded rush at 3:10 of the third off an assist from senior forward Tanner Andrew for the final goal of the game. 

GAME NOTES

  • The teams combined for 19 penalties and 92 penalty minutes.
  • Holy Cross finished with five power play goals on 12 attempts – the most allowed by RIT since Sacred Heart notched five in an 8-5 win over the visiting Tigers on Nov. 27, 2005.
  • RIT allowed the most goals since a 9-5 setback to visiting Sacred Heart on Nov. 15, 2019.
  • Wilde scored a goal for the fourth-straight game, tallying his team-leading 14th of the season. 
  • Fukakusa notched his team-leading 29th point and 22nd assist of the season. 
  • John Gelatt led Holy Cross with four goals, while Jack Stockfish ended with two goals and two assists.
