Women's Lacrosse wins 15-12 at Union
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – RIT junior Morgan Nichter scored five goals to lead the Tigers to a 15-12 win at Union, Saturday.
Junior Zoe Heffernan finished with two goals and three assists and senior Lily DePalma scored three goals. Junior Adele Jones scored two goals and juniors Milena Stephen and Grace Validzic each scored a goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Union's Greta Maurer and Gillian Joseph scored back-to-back goals early in the first quarter to give the Garnett Chargers the early 2-0 lead.
- DePalma and Heffernan answered with back-to-back tallies, tying the score at 2-2 on Heffernan's goal midway through the frame.
- Nichter and Bovenzi scored consecutive goals to give RIT a 4-3 lead with 5:01 to play in the quarter.
- DePalma scored with 41 seconds to play followed by a Nichter goal with one second remaining to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead after the first 15 minutes.
- Heffernan scored the first goal of the second quarter to extend RIT's lead to 7-4.
- Union's Maddy Schiller scored followed by a Sammy Johnson goal with 9:33 to play in the half that cut RIT's lead to 7-6.
- Nichter tallied a woman-up goal off an assist from Heffernan to give the Tigers an 8-6 lead.
- Union ran off three straight goals, taking a 9-8 lead on Joseph's goal with 4:17 to play.
- Nichter scored her fourth goal of the first half with 2:40 remaining to tie the game at 9-9.
- The Tigers scored the first two goals of the third quarter, taking an 11-9 lead on DePalma's goal with 8:40 to play.
- Schiller and Lana Mickelson tallied back-to-back goals for Union to tie the score at 11-11.
- Jones scored with 55 seconds to play in the third to give RIT a 12-11 lead.
- Doyle scored with 12:49 remaining in the fourth to tie the score at 12-12.
- Nichter and Stephen scored back-to-back goals to give the Tigers a 14-12 lead with 9:53 to play.
- Jones scored with 1:26 remaining to make it a 15-12 final.
- McDonald made four fourth quarter saves, including one on Joseph with 1:08 remaining.
GAME NOTES
- Union outshot RIT, 28-27
- McDonald made tied her season-high with 12 saves in net to earn the win.
- RIT was 12-of-14 on clearing attempts and won 24-of-29 draw controls.
- It is the first win over Union since 2023.
