Women's Lacrosse wins 16-13 at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – RIT senior Lily DePalma scored a career-high six goals to lead the Tigers to a 16-13 win at Skidmore, Friday.
 
DePalma finished with six goals and tied her career-high with seven points. Junior Zoe Heffernan tied her career-high with four goals and junior Morgan Nichter finished with three goals and an assist.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Skidmore's Jillian Lockwood and Phoebe Ross scored two straight goals early in the first quarter to give the Thoroughbreds an early lead.
  • RIT ran off four straight goals, taking a 4-2 lead on DePalma's goal with 10:35 to play in the quarter.
  • Lily Schwartzman capped off a five-goal Skidmore run with her goal to give the Thoroughbreds a 7-4 lead with 1:56 to play in the first.
  • Heffernan scored to make it 7-5 followed by a Lockwood goal with 42 seconds remaining to give Skidmore an 8-5 lead after the first 15 minutes of play.
  • RIT outscored Skidmore 4-1 in the second quarter.
  • Jones scored off an assist from DePalma followed by a goal from Nichter with 5:04 to play to cut the Skidmore lead to 8-7.
  • Grace deBenedictis scored with 3:31 remaining in the half to give the Thoroughbreds a 9-7 lead.
  • Heffernan scored two consecutive goals, tying the game at 9-9 on her tally with 1:20 to play in the half.
  • Junior Milena Stephen scored with 8:36 to play in the third quarter off an assist from Kate Trojan to give RIT a 10-9 lead.
  • Heffernan gave the Tigers an 11-9 lead on her goal with 7:03 remaining in the third.
  • deBenedictis scored to make it 11-10 followed by a Nichter goal to give the Tigers a 12-10 lead.
  • DePalma scored her fourth goal of the game with 10:38 remaining in the fourth quarter to extend RIT's lead to 13-10.
  • Junior Grace Validzic gave the Tigers a 14-10 lead on her goal with 9:20 to play.
  • Skidmore ran off three straight goals, cutting RIT's lead to 14-13 on Charlotte Taylor's free-position goal with 5:53 to play.
  • DePalma netted her fifth goal of the game with 5:09 to play to give RIT a 15-13 lead.
  • First year Grace McDonald made a save on Lily Hudner's free-position attempt with 4:34 to play.
  • DePalma tallied her sixth goal of the game with 3:30 remaining to make it a 16-13 final.

 
 
GAME NOTES

  • RIT outshot Skidmore, 39-30
  • McDonald made nine saves in net to earn the win.
  • Sophomore defender Katherine Killian won seven draw controls and had four ground balls.
  • RIT was 13-of-15 on clearing attempts and won 24-of-33 draw controls.
  • It is the first win for RIT over Skidmore since 2018.
