Men’s Lacrosse to host Union in Liberty League Semifinal
ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (16-1) men's lacrosse team will host Union in the Liberty League Semifinal on Friday (May 3) at 4:00 P.M.

RIT leads the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 17.59 goals per game, and leads Division III, converting 35-of-57 (.600) man-up chances.
RIT features 11 players with at least 10 points, and eight players with 10 or more goals. Junior attack Clifford Gaston is tied for first in the Liberty League with 80 points on a league-best 56 goals and 24 assists. Graduate student attack Jake Erickson is second on the team with 74 points and leads the league with 42 assists. Graduate student attack Luke Pilcher is third on the team with 67 points and is fourth in the league with 45 goals.
RIT, ranked second in this week's USILA Division III Coach's Poll, is second in the Liberty League allowing 9.49 goals per game, and leads the league averaging 39.24 ground balls per contest. The Tigers have killed off 37-of-55 man-up chances (67.2%) and won 55.5 percent (286-of-515) of their face-offs. RIT is third nationally in assists with 184 and 11th, clearing the ball 88.9 percent (367-of-413) of the time.
Sophomore goalie Alex Zborowski is 15-1 and is second in the league with an 8.64 goals against average, and third with a .617 save percentage. Senior defenseman Michael Grace leads the team with 17 caused turnovers and is second on the team with 78 ground balls. Graduate student defenseman Tanner Winklemann is second on the team with 12 caused turnovers.
Graduate student face-off specialist Allyn French has won 57.5 percent (173-of-301) of his draws and leads the team with 98 ground balls. Sophomore Ethan Spillane is 54.0 percent from the face-off "X", and third on the team with 45 ground balls.
Senior attack Peter Kipp scored four goals and five points to lead fourth-seeded Union to 12-9 win over No. 5 Clarkson in Tuesday's first round game. Kipp scored four of Union's final seven goals, including two straight late in the fourth quarter. Senior attack Jake Mabardy tallied three goals, while senior attack Michael Shaw finished with two goals and an assist. Senior goalie Sean Donahue made 11 saves in net for the Garnett Chargers.
Union, ranked ninth in this week's USILA Division III Coach's Poll, is fourth in the league averaging 12.50 goals per game, and second in man-up scoring percentage (47.8%), converting 22-of-46 of its chances.
Kipp leads the Garnett Chargers and is eighth in the league with 62 points. He is fifth in the league with 41 goals and is tied for ninth in the league with 21 assists. Shaw is second on the team and ninth in the league with 58 points and is tied for ninth in the conference with 21 assists and Mabardy is third on the team with 45 points (26g, 19a).
Union is sixth in the Liberty League allowing 11.31 goals per game and lead winning 69.8% of its draws. The Garnett Chargers are eighth the Liberty League killing 66.1 percent of their opponents' penalties.
Donahue is 12-4 on the season and is seventh in the league with an 11.09 goals against average and fifth with a .543 save percentage. Senior face-off specialist Matthew Paolatto is second nationally winning 72.1 percent (284-of-394) of his face offs, and eighth in Division III, averaging 10.88 ground balls per game. Sophomore defenseman John Sula and sophomore defender Shaine Luzietti are tied for first on the team with 13 caused turnovers apiece.
Pilcher led RIT with four goals and six points in the Tigers 16-12 win over Union last Saturday (April 27). The Tigers outscored the Saints 9-6 in the second half, including 5-3 in the fourth quarter. Kipp and Shaw each scored three goals for the Garnett Chargers, while Mabardy tallied two goals and an assist. Zborowski made 17 saves in net for RIT, while Donahue made 10 saves in goal for Union.
RIT is vying for its 12th straight Liberty League crown, while the Garnett Chargers look to win its second conference championship.
The winner will face St. Lawrence or RPI in the Liberty League Championship on Sunday (May 5).
