Women's Lacrosse loses 13-12 at Ithaca in Liberty League Semifinal

ITHACA, N.Y. – RIT junior Zoe Heffernan scored four goals in the No. 3 Tigers 13-12 loss to No. 2 Ithaca in the Liberty League Semifinal, Friday.
 
 
Heffernan finished with four goals and an assist. Junior Grace Validzic scored two goals and juniors Milena Stephen, Morgan Nichter and Jenna Bovenzi and senior Lily DePalma each had a goal and an assist.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Elizabeth Green scored with 12:37 remaining in the first quarter to give Ithaca the lead.
  • Sophomore Sarah Hallinan tied the game at 1-1 with her goal with 9:39 remaining in the opening frame.
  • Lexy Kellish scored to give Ithaca a 2-1 lead followed by a goal from junior Adele Jones to tie the score at 2-2.
  • Lily Cody gave the Bombers a 3-2 lead, but Validzic scored with 2:36 remaining in the first to tie the score at 3-3.
  • Kelly Augeri scored with 24 seconds to play in the first to give Ithaca a 4-3 lead.
  • Heffernan tied the score at 4-4 on her goal early in the second quarter.
  • Augeri scored followed by a goal from Heffernan off an assist from DePalma that tied the score at 5-5 with 11:52 remaining in the second.
  • Ithaca scored back-to-back goals, taking a 7-5 lead on Cody's goal with 9:26 to play in the half.
  • The Tigers answered with two straight goals, tying the score at 7-7 on Nichter's goal.
  • Augeri scored with 15 seconds to play to give Ithaca an 8-7 halftime lead.
  • Green scored early in the third quarter to give the Bombers a 9-7 lead.
  • Valizic scored a woman-up goal with 7:22 remaining in the third to make it a one-goal game.
  • Ithaca tallied back-to-back goals late in the third, taking an 11-8 lead on Augeri's goal with 16 seconds remaining in the quarter.
  • Green scored 51 seconds into the fourth quarter to increase the Bomber's lead to 12-8.
  • RIT scored four straight goals to knot the score at 12-12. Heffernan scored a free-position goal to make it 12-9.
  • DePalma scored off an assist from Heffernan to cut the deficit to 12-10.
  • Stephen scored with 5:47 remaining to make it a one-goal game and Bovenzi tallied a goal with 3:39 to play to tie the score at 12-12.
  • Green scored with 1:22 to play in regulation to make it a 13-12 final.

 
 
GAME NOTES

  • Ithaca outshot RIT, 31-30
  • Junior Ellie Ruddy made seven saves and first year Grace McDonald made two stops.
  • Sophomore Katherine Killian won four draws, grabbed three ground balls and caused a turnover. Jones led RIT with six draw controls.
  • RIT was 14-of-18 on clearing attempts and won 14-of-28 draw controls.
