Baseball tops Union, 10-4

Schenectady, N.Y.   – Sophomore catcher Icaac Breagelmann recorded 3 RBIs and one run to lead the RIT baseball team past Union, Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior Randy Dodig and junior Jackson Rusiekci each scored in the first inning to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
  • Union tied the game in the bottom of the third inning when Dylan Swarts singled, which brought in Noah DiCaprio.
  • In the sixth, Braegelmann doubled to right center, sending graduate student John Bagley, senior Adam Marsh, and junior Roberto Reade home to put RIT ahead, 5-2.
  • RIT added two more runs in the seventh, including a run from sophomore Dorian Stroud off a sacrifice bunt from Bagley.
  • Braegelmann scored the 10th run for the Tigers in the ninth off a sacrifice fly from junior Charlie Slaymaker.
  • The Union scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning with no outs, but first-year pitcher Owen Fisher closed the game with three straight outs, including a pair of strikeouts.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Graduate student John Arnold improved to 4-2 on the season after allowing just two runs off six hits through six innings of work.
  • Fisher picked up the save with three innings on the mound, striking out six batters.
  • Braegelmann's three RBIs is a career-high as the sophomore has 16 RBIs this season.
  • The win puts RIT's record at 17-8 overall and 6-4 in the Liberty League.
