Department Mourns passing of former wrestling coach Scott Stever

FULL OBITUARY (Vay-Schleich & Meeson - March 2023) ROCHESTER, N.Y.

- Former RIT wrestling coach Scott Stever passed away, Thursday, March 25. He was 75 years old.

Stever coached at RIT from 1999-2016, amassing 76 wins, mentoring eight All-Americans in his tenure.

Stever wrestled collegiately at Corning Community College where he qualified for two NJCAA Championships. He went on to the University of Buffalo where he won six AAU freestyle titles, won the first New York State Collegiate Championship at 142 lbs and qualified to wrestle at the NCAA Championships twice.

Stever was inducted into the New York State Chapter of the National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2014, he was inducted into the Division III National Coaches Hall of Fame.

There will be a Celebration of Life for friends and family on Friday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m. at Greece Assembly of God.
