No. 3 Men's Lacrosse comes back to beat Clarkson, 13-10
POTSDAM, N.Y. – RIT junior Chase Bruno recorded a career-high six points to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 13-10 win at Clarkson, Saturday.
Bruno finished with three goals and three assists. Graduate student Ian Dinga scored a career-high four goals and first year Ryan Bullock scored two goals. Seniors Nate Senez, Ethan Harkins and Clifford Gaston each tallied a goal and an assist.
Sophomores Logan Fletcher caused two turnovers and had five ground balls. Fifth year Nick Farrell won 8-of-19 face offs and first year Justin Weeda won 5-of-6 draws. Junior Alex Zborowski made 12 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- RIT led 3-2 after the first quarter. Senez scored to give RIT the lead followed by an Alex Seiler goal to tie the score at 1-1.
- Acton scored with 8:33 remaining in the opening quarter to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
- Connor Matthews tied the game at 2-2 on his goal with 4:19 to play.
- Bruno scored with 1:54 remaining in the first to give RIT a 3-2 lead.
- Dinga scored early in the second quarter to extend the Tiger's lead to 4-2.
- Seiler scored two straight goals, tying the score at 4-4 on his goal with 8:40 to play in the half.
- Bruno scored his second goal of the half with 8:02 remaining to give RIT a 5-4 lead.
- Clarkson tallied the final three goals of the quarter, taking a 7-5 lead on Ethan Hopkins' goal late in the half.
- Vincent Lavarnway scored with 8:57 remaining in the third quarter to extend Clarkson's lead to 8-5.
- Dinga scored to make it 8-6 followed by a goal from Harkins with 3:23 to play in the third to cut the Golden Knight's lead to 8-7.
- Bullock tied the game at 8-8 on his goal with 8:47 to play in the fourth quarter.
- Gaston gave RIT a 9-8 lead on his goal off an assist from Senez with 7:04 remaining.
- Erskine and Robert Fox tallied back-to-back goals to give Clarkson a 10-9 lead with 4:39 left in regulation.
- Dinga tied the game on his goal with 3:43 remaining.
- Bullock scored his second goal of the fourth quarter to give the Tigers an 11-10 lead.
- Dinga scored to give RIT a 12-10 lead and Bruno scored with 23 seconds remaining to make it a 13-10 final.
- Zborowski made nine saves including three in the fourth quarter. He made a key stop on a shot from Erskine with 1:11 to play.
