Women's Hockey loses 2-1 in OT to No. 9 Penn State on Senior Day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior goalie Sarah Coe made 46 saves in the Tigers 2-1 overtime loss to No. 9 Penn State, Saturday.
 
RIT honored seniors Kylie Aquaro, Jordyn Bear, Kyla Bear, Annie Burks, Jessie Burks, Addie Carr, Sarah Coe, Bailey Kehl, Bronwyn Khangsar, Megan McCormick and Athena Vasdani before today's game.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Alyssa Machado scored 1:55 into the first period off a rebound to give Penn State a 1-0 lead.
  • Kyla Bear tied the game at 1-1 on her goal at 4:40 of the opening frame. Aquaro fed a pass in front. Bear crashed the net, and she tapped in a shot into the open net.
  • Coe made 18 saves in a scoreless second period.
  • RIT had a 5-on-3 power play after Penn State was whistled for two penalties in the second period. Khangsar, sophomore defensewoman Emma Pickering, first your forward Brac Kelley and Jordyn Bear each fired shots on goal in the power play.
  • The Tigers fired five shots in the third period. Vasdani had a chance with three minutes remaining. The puck came to her inside the Penn State zone. Her shot from the slot was blocked by a Penn State defender.
  • Leah Stecker scored with 2:48 remaining in overtime to make it a 2-1 final.

  • Penn State outshot RIT 48-20
  • The Tigers went 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Nittany Lions were 0-for-4
  • Coe made 46 saves in net which is the third-most in her career

RIT earned the No. 4 seed and will host Lindenwood in the Atlantic Hockey America Quarterfinal game on Saturday (Feb. 22) at 3:00 p.m.
