Women's Volleyball falls to Penn State-Behrend, 3-1, Carnegie Mellon, 3-0

ERIE, Pa. – The RIT Women's Volleyball team dropped both ends of a tri-match in Pennsylvania, Saturday, falling to host Penn State Behrend, 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17) and Carnegie Mellon, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-14).

  • RIT led by as many as eight in the first set, including 17-9, and later led, 22-15, when PSB scored six-straight points to pull within one, 22-21. The Tigers scored the next two points and had two opportunities to close the set, but Behrend finished the set with five unanswered points to complete the comeback.
  • Behrend opened the second with an 11-6 and led by as many as eight, 21-13. RIT scored a 5-2 run to get within five, 23-18, but Behrend notched the final two points to close a 2-0 lead.
  • RIT scored the first five points of the third en route to a 9-3 lead. The Tigers pushed their lead to as many as 10 on two occasions, including 19-9, before Behrend used an 8-3 surge to pull back withing five, 22-17. RIT scored three of the final four points to earn the victory.
  • A back-and-forth fourth set saw RIT score four-straight points to knot the score, 14-14. Behrend pulled ahead, 18-15, but the Tigers scored the next two points to pull back within one, 18-17. Behrend finished with seven unanswered points to close the victory.

  • Tied, 5-5, in the first set, RIT used a 9-6 run to open a 14-11 lead. Carnegie Mellon scored the next six points to start a 12-2 run for a 23-16 lead the proved decisive.
  • Tied, 8-8, in the second, Carnegie Mellon scored eight of the next 10 points for a 16-10 lead before finishing the set with a 9-3 run.
  • Trailing, 12-4, early in the third, RIT bounced back with a 6-2 surge to pull back within four, 14-10. Later leading, 18-13, Carnegie Mellon won seven of the final eight points to close the sweep.

RIT returns to Liberty League play next weekend, traveling to Union on Friday (Oct. 10) for a 7:00 p.m. match before heading to Bard on Saturday (Oct. 11) for a 2:00 p.m. showdown.
