ITHACA, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team dropped both ends of a Liberty League doubleheader at Ithaca, Saturday, falling 2-0 and 4-0, to close the regular season.

WHAT'S NEXT
Despite the losses, RIT qualified for the Liberty League Tournament for the first time since 2017. The fourth-seeded Tigers will face fifth-seeded St. Lawrence in a play-in game on Thursday (May 9) at 10:00 a.m., hosted by top-seeded RPI. The winner advances to play in the four-team double-elimination tournament (May 9-11) with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament going to the champion.

GAME 1 – ITHACA 2, RIT 0

  • Sophomore Jessica Majot threw a complete-game four hitter, striking out six while only allowing one walk, but the Bombers broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the opening victory.
  • Majot had only allowed one hit and one walk through five innings before the Bombers put two runners on with back-to-back bunts in the sixth followed by a two-run double by Elise Waddington.
  • RIT got a runner to second with one out in the top of the seventh, but were unable to find the tying runs.

GAME 2 – ITHACA 4, RIT 0

  • Ithaca scored twice during a four-hit second inning, and added two more on two hits and an error in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
  • Majot went the distance again, allowing eight hits and one walk while striking out two.
