Wrestling beats Southern Maine and falls at Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, RI – The RIT wrestling team went 1-1, beating Southern Maine 27-14 and falling to host No. 11 Johnson and Wales, 36-7, Saturday.
 
Senior Lee Rubin defeated Southern Maine's Noah Krysztofiak with a fall at 5:54 at 125 lb. and first year Max Watson was an 8-5 winner over Kaleb Pool at 157 lb. First year Jack Lamson picked up a 9-4 decision over Derek Cote at 165 lb. and sophomore Tyler Balent was a 4-1 winner against Tyler Haynes at 174 lb. Junior Zach Swyers pinned Michael Sanchez at 4:06 at 184 lb. and junior Josh Harkless, ranked No. 5 at 285 lb. pinned Owen Bufagna at 4:54 to clinch the match for the Tigers.
 
Versus Johnson & Wales, Harkless defeated No. 7 Adolfo Betancur with an 8-0 major decision, while sophomore Jared Lee defeated Freedom Excel 8-5 at 149 lb.
 
RIT returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 23) at the NYS Intercollegiate Open hosted by Oneonta.
