ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Five RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with weekly honors announced by the league, Monday.
Graduate student John Arnold was the Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Senior Ethan Harkins was the Men's Lacrosse Offensive Performer of the Week and sophomore Jack DeFeo was the Track Performer of the Week. Graduate student Drew Scheib was the Men's Swimmer of the Week and senior Gellert Kish was the Men's Diver of the Week.
Arnold pitched five innings without allowing a run or a hit and struck out nine batters to lead RIT to a 5-1 win over Alfred State, Sunday. Arnold exited the game with the Tigers leading 3-0 after throwing 83 pitches against 17 batters.
Harkins recorded a career-high six goals and seven points to lead No. 2 RIT to a 17-11 win at Grove City, Saturday. He scored two goals in the first quarter, one in the second, two goals and an assist in the third quarter and a goal in the fourth. He was 6-of-7 shooting and grabbed three ground balls.
DeFeo was the top Division III finisher in the 400 at the Penn State Tune-Up, finishing seventh with a program-record time of 48.52, breaking the previous record of 48.94 that had stood since 2010. DeFeo ran a leg in the winning 4x400 relay in a time of 3:18.47 which was .16 seconds shy of the program record.
Scheib won three individual events and swam legs in four winning relays to earn Swimmer of the Meet honors at the Liberty League Championships. Scheib won the 200 individual medley in a program record time of 1:48.84, the 100 butterfly in a Liberty League and program record time of 47.60 (NCAA "B" cut) and the 200 butterfly in a Liberty League record time of 1:47.55 (NCAA "B" cut). The graduate student swimmer also swam the opening leg in the winning 400 freestyle relay which recorded a NCAA "B" cut time of 3:00.78 and the 200 freestyle relay in a Liberty League record time of 1:20.83 (NCAA "B" cut). Scheib swam the opening leg in the winning 200 medley relay in a Liberty League and program record time of 1:28.13 and the 400 medley relay which swam a Liberty League and program record time of 3:15.93.
Kish won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions at the Liberty League Swimming and Diving Champions winning Diver of the Meet honors for the fourth straight year. Kish swept both championship diving events for the third time in his career and the first time since 2023. He won the 3-meter championship for the third consecutive year, totaling a score of 583.30 points and won the title in the 1-meter competition with a score of 552.64.
