Five Tigers land Liberty League weekly accolades
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Five RIT student-athletes were named Liberty League Performers of the Week, announced Monday (Feb. 12). First year Alec Turcotte was the Men's Tennis Singles Performer of the Week.
On the women's side graduate student Catherine Fox was the Women's Field Performer of the Week. Senior Jackie Drozd was the Women's Tennis Singles Performer of the Week, while first year Kira Kronenberg was the Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week. Kronenberg and first year Maya Clinard were the Women's Doubles Team of the Week.
Turcotte recorded posted a 3-1 record for RIT last weekend. Turcotte teamed up with junior Grahith Movva for an 8-5 win at first doubles, Saturday and defeated William Schmid, 6-3, 6-4 at second singles to help RIT to an 8-1 win over the Red Dragons. Sunday, Turcotte was a winner at second singles, winning the first set against Kai Yuminaga, 7-6 (7-4) before Yuminaga was forced to retire due to an injury.
Fox placed fifth in the pole vault, breaking her own program-record height with a 3.62m effort at the Boston University Valentine Invitational this past weekend.
Drozd went 1-1 in singles to help RIT to a 1-1 record. The senior defeated Oneonta's Danielle Copp, 6-1, 6-4 at fourth singles in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Red Dragons. Drozd came back from a 2-5 deficit to tie the first set before losing in a tiebreaker against Rochester's Neha Dania at fifth singles, Sunday.
Kronenberg went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles to lead RIT to a 1-1 record last week. She defeated Oneonta's Julia Holtermann, 6-0, 6-0 at first singles in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Red Dragons, and teamed up with junior Gabby Donohue for an 8-0 win at second doubles. Sunday, Kronenberg took down Rochester's Josephine Libby, 6-1, 6-0.
Kronenberg and Clinard teamed up to beat Rochester's Josephine Libby and Sanjana Karnam, 8-1, Sunday at Midtown Athletic Club.
