No. 3 Men's Lacrosse wins 20-10 at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – RIT junior Clifford Gaston tallied three goals and two assists to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 20-10 win at Skidmore, Saturday.
 
Graduate student attack Luke Pilcher scored three goals and added an assist, while senior midfielder Michael Finneran and junior attack Ethan Harkins each had two goals and an assist.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Finneran and senior midfielder Seth Grottnethaler scored back-to-back goals to give RIT a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter.
  • Skidmore's Matthew Pinckney scored a man-up goal to cut the Tiger's lead to 2-1 with 9:20 remaining in the opening frame.
  • Pilcher tallied two straight goals to increase RIT's lead to 4-1 and Gaston scored off an assist from Grottenthaler to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.
  • Brian Gonsalves cut the RIT lead to 5-2 on his goal with 2:31 remaining, but consecutive goals from Gaston, Finneran and sophomore midfielder Ethan Spillane increased RIT's lead to 8-2 after the first 15 minutes.
  • RIT outscored the Thoroughbreds, 7-1 in the second quarter to lead 15-3 at halftime. Sophomore attack Ethan Harkins scored two goals and Gaston, Pilcher and senior midfielder Dylan Bruno each had a goal and an assist in the quarter.
  • Senior midfielders Miles Tillman and Cameron Gebhardt and first-year midfielder David Charney each scored in the third quarter.
  • Skidmore scored four third-quarter goals, cutting the Tigers lead to 18-7 on Charlie McFadden's goal with eight seconds remaining in the quarter.
  • Junior attack Jack Budway and graduate student midfielder TJ Hendricks each scored in the fourth quarter.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored three times in the fourth quarter including one from Pinckney with 13 seconds remaining to make it a 20-10 final.

 
GAME NOTES:

  • RIT outshot Skidmore, 53-37
  • The Tigers went 25-of-29 on clearing attempts and won 24-of-32 face offs.
  • Sophomore goalie Alex Zborowski made three saves in the first half to improve to 10-1 on the season.
  • Senior face-off specialist Nick Farrell won 9-of-12 draws and led RIT with nine ground balls.
