Men's Hockey falls to Niagara, 7-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Men's Hockey team fell to visiting Niagara, 7-0, in Atlantic Hockey America play, Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Niagara opened the scoring in the first period following a Tiger holding penalty. Glebs Prohorenkovs dropped a pass into the slot that deflected off a Tiger player's skate, but Noah Hackett collected the loose puck and chipped it over Tiger goaltender Trent Burnham's glove at 8:33.
  • Niagara took a 2-0 lead at 13:15 of the second. Alex Murray flipped a puck from the point to Shane Ott crossing through the slot before Ott backhanded a shot from the right faceoff circle that deflected off Tyler Wallace's skate in front of the left post.
  • RIT trailed 3-0 heading into the third after Trevor Hoskin intercepted a pass at the top of the Niagara zone and skated back the other way to deke Burnham, glove side, to finish the one-on-one opportunity with 4.6 left in the second.
  • The Purple Eagles scored three times in the first three minutes of the third for a 6-0 lead. Hoskin stole a puck in the left faceoff circle and fed Jay Ahern in the slot for a wrist shot inside the left post 21 seconds into the period before Noah Hackett sent a puck out of the left corner to Andy Reist for a one-timer in the slot at 1:28. Ott crossed the Tiger blue line and slipped a pass to Murray, who scored from the slot inside the right post at 2:56.
  • Niagara's seventh goal came at 13:32 after Ott finished a two-on-one break with Grayson Dietrich.
