No. 3 Men's Lacrosse cruises past No. 17 Dickinson, 24-7

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – RIT senior Clifford Gaston tied his career-high with seven goals and nine points to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 24-7 win over No. 17 Dickinson at the Callum Robinson Mustang Shootout, Friday.
 
Gaston finished with seven goals and two assists and senior Nate Senez tallied two goals and six assists. Graduate student Ian Dinga scored three goals and graduate student Seth Grottenthaler and senior Eric Burbank each had three assists. Senior Ethan Harkins and first year Caden Daley each scored two goals.
 
Fifth year Allyn French won 8-of-15 face offs and had four ground balls. Sophomore Logan Fletcher had two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Junior Alex Zborowski made nine saves, sophomore Chase Strychaluk and senior Connor Flanegan each made three saves.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • RIT led 8-0 after the first quarter. Gaston scored three times in the opening frame while Harkins, Dinga, junior Chase Bruno and sophomore Adam Wong each scored.
  • The Tigers outscored Dickinson 6-2 in the second quarter to lead 14-2 at halftime. Gaston scored twice in the second quarter and Senez, Dinga and junior Tyson Allison each scored.
  • Gaston scored the first two goals of the second quarter, extending the Tiger's lead to 10-0 on his goal with 11:15 to play in the first half.
  • RIT scored six times in the third quarter, including a four-goal run, taking a 19-3 lead on Dinga's goal with 8:25 to play in the quarter. Senez, Harkins and sophomore Nick DiLauro each scored in the RIT spurt.
  • Daley scored twice in the fourth quarter along with first year Ryan Langille.
  • Dickinson's Hagen McTear and Luke Whalen scored back-to-back goals in the closing minutes to make it a 23-7 final.

 
GAME NOTES:

  • RIT outshot Dickinson, 46-39.
  • The Tigers were 25-of-27 on clearing attempts and went 2-for-4 with the extra attacker
  • RIT won 18-of-34- face offs and had 46 ground balls
  • Gaston moves into a tie for fifth in all-time in scoring with 266 career points.
