No. 3 Men's Lacrosse wins 15-8 at Vassar
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – RIT graduate student Ian Dinga tallied two goals and two assists to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 15-8 win at Vassar, Saturday.
Senior Clifford Gaston scored four goals and added an assist and senior Nate Senez finished with three goals and an assist. Sophomore Nick DiLauro and first year Ryan Bullock each scored two goals.
Junior goalie Alex Zborowski made five saves. Sophomore Logan Fletcher caused three turnovers and graduate student Allyn French won 8-of-10 face offs and had six ground balls. Fifth year Nick Farrell won 7-of-11 draws and Senez grabbed four ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Dinga scored early in the first quarter to give RIT the lead.
- Vassar's Shane O'Hara tied the game on his goal.
- Senior Kaden Dietrich scored with 9:47 to play in the opening frame to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
- Drew Mazzocco scored with 7:58 remaining to tie the game at 2-2.
- RIT outscored Vassar 6-0 in the second quarter to lead 8-2 at halftime.
- Gaston scored twice in the quarter, while Bullock, senior Seth Grottenthaler and Senez each scored.
- Dinga and Senez tallied back-to-back goals early in the third quarter, increasing the Tiger's lead to 10-2 on Senez' goal with 13:08 remaining in the third.
- Jack Rufa snapped the Tiger's eight-goal run with his goal with 8:53 to play in the third to cut RIT's lead to 10-3.
- RIT ran off five straight goals, increasing its lead to 15-3 on Bullock's goal with one second to play in the third. Gaston scored twice in the Tigers run, while DiLauro, Senez and Bullock each scored.
- Vassar outscored RIT 5-0 in the fourth, including a goal from O'Hara with 2:29 remaining to make it a 15-8 final.
GAME NOTES:
- RIT outshot Vassar, 53-34
- The Tigers were 12-of-12 on clearing attempts and went 5-for-6 with the extra attacker
- RIT won 17-of-26 face offs and had 52 ground balls
