Three Tigers land Liberty League weekly honors
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with weekly honors, announced Monday. Senior Maddy Cook was the Softball Performer of the Week and first year Kate Carlone was the Softball Rookie of the Week. On the men's side, senior Clifford Gaston was the Men's Lacrosse Offensive Performer of the Week.
Cook opened the season batting .500 (12-for-24) with five doubles, seven runs scored and eight RBI in the Tigers' first six games of the season. She finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBI in the 18-0 win over Cobleskill and went 3-for-5 with a single, a double and a triple while scoring two runs and knocking in another opposite Bethany on Friday. On Sunday, she went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in a win over La Roche before going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored against Rockford.
Carlone went 10-for-18 with a triple, five runs scored and seven RBI as the Tigers opened the season with six games in Florida last week. She went 3-for-5 with two RBI in her collegiate debut vs. Bethany on Friday, before going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in a 18-0 win over Cobleskill on Saturday. Her Sunday included a 3-for-3 performance with two RBI and run scored in a 14-1 win over La Roche.
Gaston recorded eight points on six goals and two assists and grabbed five ground balls to help RIT to a 2-0 record. He tallied a goal and an assist and scooped up two ground balls in the Tigers 18-7 win at Geneseo, Wednesday. Gaston scored five goals and an assist to go along with three ground balls in RIT's 20-4 win over Ursinus, Saturday.
