Baseball sweeps Rochester on Senior Day; 13-5, 14-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior shortstop Randy Dodig became the program's all-time hits leader as junior second baseman Jarin Moses hit a pair of multi-run home runs to lead the Tigers past Rochester in a doubleheader on Senior Day, Sunday.
 
GAME ONE - RIT 13, ROCHESTER 5

  • The visiting Yellowjackets started the game with a two-out RBI single in the top of the first inning, taking an early 1-0 lead.
  • RIT responded in the bottom of the first when junior third baseman Charlie Slaymaker doubled down the right field line to bring home Caelan Kim and Jackson Rusiecki.
  • After Rochester tied the game in the second inning, Moses hit a grand slam over the left field fence to give the Tigers a 7-2 lead.  Later in the inning, senior first baseman Adam Marsh drove in junior third baseman Carlie Slaymaker to extend the RIT lead.
  • In the fifth inning, Dodig brought junior Roberto Reade home with a single to right field to put the score at 10-5.
  • RIT added two more runs in the seventh to extend the lead to seven runs while holding the Yellowjackets scoreless through the final four innings.

 
GAME TWO - RIT 14, ROCHESTER 4

  • Rochester's C. Cruser hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning before Moses did the same to even the game at 3-3.
  • Rochester retook the lead in the third with a run from A. Gonzalo off a single by L. Gregory.
  • Reade drove in Slaymaker in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 4-4.
  • The Tigers added three runs in the fourth inning, including a two-run single to center field by Marsh, allowing Moses and Kim to score.
  • In the seventh inning, RIT wrapped up the game with a grand slam from Slaymaker that hit the inside portion of the foul pole, giving the Tigers a 14-4 lead that resulted in the game being called due to the 10-run rule.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Dodig now has 200 career hits, surpassing Geoff Dornes' 199 hits, which was set in 2010.
  • Moses now has 10 home runs this season and has sent the ball over the fence three times in the last three games.
  • The Tigers improve to 22-12 overall and currently sit in third place in the Liberty League West Division standings with a record of 11-7.
