Baseball drops doubleheader at Hobart

GENEVA N.Y.  – The RIT baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with Hobart, Monday. The teams started playing on Saturday afternoon but were forced to postpone the first game with two outs in the top of the sixth inning due to inclement weather.  
 
GAME ONE – Hobart 4, RIT 3

  • The Tigers took the lead early in the second inning when junior Charlie Slaymaker sent juniors Roberto Reade and Jarin Moses home with a single up the middle. Hobart responded in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs to level the score, 2-2.
  • After resuming the game, the Statesmen tacked on two unanswered runs in the seventh inning.
  • RIT closed the gap to one run with Moses hitting a home run to left field in the ninth to round out the scoring.

 
GAME TWO – Hobart 14, RIT 10

  • Trailing 5-0, RIT got on the board in the fifth inning when Moses hit a single to left field to drive in senior Randy Dodig. Later in the inning, Reade hit a double down the left field line to score two more runs.  Hobart responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own to take a 7-3 lead.
  • The Statesmen scored another four runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to eight runs before RIT closed the gap in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs to narrow the deficit to three runs.
  • Hobart added three more runs in the seventh to extend the lead to six.
  • RIT opened the ninth inning with Slaymaker and first-year Zachary Meehl scoring runs in to make it 14-10.

RIT returns home Wednesday (Mar. 26th) for a non-conference game against Oswego at 3 p.m.
