Softball beats La Roche, 14-1 (5 inn.), falls to Rockford, 9-7, in Florida
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The RIT Softball team split two games on day-three action at the Gene Cusic Classic, Sunday, earning a 14-1 (5 inn.) victory over La Roche (Pa.), before falling 9-7 to Rockford (Ill.).
RIT 14, LA ROCHE 1 (5 INN.)
- RIT plated four runs in the third inning and another 10 in the fourth while totaling 17 hits en route to the victory.
- Kate Carlone went 3-for-3 with a run scored an a RBI.
- Anna Cavotta finished 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBI.
- Bailey Kehl ended 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run scored.
- Maria Minemier totaled three RBI along with a double and a run scored.
- Maddy Cook went 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI and scored two runs.
- Starting pitcher Jessica Majot only allowed three hits and an earned run while striking out five in four innings of work. Mackenzie Blair struck out two while only allowing one hit in one inning of relief.
ROCKFORD 9, RIT 7
- Cook led the Tigers with a 2-for-4 day, including a double, a run scored and two RBI.
- RIT plated a run in the bottom of the first after Cavotta led off with an infield single and eventually came around on a ground ball by Cook.
- Rockford responded by loaded the bases to start the top of the second, eventually bringing around around five runs to take a 5-1 lead.
- Rockford took a 6-1 lead with a two-out run in the fourth, before RIT scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to pull within three. Minemier drew a lead-off walk and eventually came around on a Rockford error on a ball hit by Carlone. Cavotta eventually brought Carlone home with an infield single for a 6-3 score.
- Rockford again responded with three runs on three hits and a Tiger error in the fifth inning for a 9-3 lead that proved decisive.
- Carlone plated Cook with an RBI single in the fifth, before Cook brought home Kehl with a two-out double in the sixth to bring RIT within three, 9-6.
- Minemier later led off the seventh with a single and eventually came home on a RBI single by Sylvia White, but Rockford got the final two outs to end the rally.
- Hill took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks in four innings of work.

After taking Monday off, the Tigers return to action in Florida on Tuesday (Mar. 12) opposite St. Joseph (Conn.) at 9:00 a.m. and Geneva (Pa.) at 11:00 a.m.
