Men's Basketball defeats Union, 88-78

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior guard Brock Bowen poured in a career-high 27 points to lead RIT past Union, 88-71, Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the scored tied 6-6 early in the game, the Tigers used a 13-2 run to take a 16-8 lead with 12:52 on the clock in the first half.
  • The visiting Garnett Chargers used a 7-2 burst to end the half trailing 36-34.
  • Union would take the lead two minutes into the second half when Matthew Garside made a layup to make it a 42-40 Union lead.
  • RIT took control of the game when Bowen hit a three to make it a 57-53 Tigers advantage with 13:44 on the clock.

 
GAME NOTES

  • Bowen's nine three-pointers is just two shy of the record 11 which was set by A.J. Hoarde on Jan. 12, 2016 in a 104-101 double overtime win at home against Union.
  • As a team, RIT was clutch from the free-throw line in the second half, making 13 of 15 shots.
  • Senior guard Chase Dickens pitched in 22 points after going 8 of 10 from the field, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc as well as converting a pair of free-throws.
  • Senior forward Josiah Turner added 12 points, and seven rebounds as graduate student guard Matt Caggiano scored 10 points to go along with a game-high six assists.
  • The win puts RIT at 4-4 overall and improve to 1-1 in the Liberty League.

RIT is back in action Friday (Jan. 3) when they visit Geneseo for their final non-conference game of the season. Game-time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
