Baseball holds off Hobart, 4-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y.   – Graduate student John Arnold recorded 10 strikeouts through 8.2 innings to help RIT win 4-3 at home against Hobart in their Liberty League opener, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior first baseman Adam Marsh hit a single to drive in Randy Dodig and John Bagley in the bottom of the third to give RIT an early 2-0 lead.
  • In the seventh inning, Jackson Rusiecki singled into center field to bring Dodig and pinch runner Mikey Zacher to double the Tigers' lead.
  • The visiting Statesmen scored three runs in the top of the ninth before senior relief pitcher Dylan Joseph forced the last out with a grounder to third base.

 
GAME NOTES

  • On the mound, Arnold lasted all but the final out of the game for RIT, making 139 pitches. The graduate student notched 10 strikeouts and three walks, allowing just four hits. The win improves Arnold's record to 3-1 on the season.
  • Rusiecki, a sophomore, went 3-of-4 at the plate, including a double.
  • With two runs, Dodig leads the team with 16 runs through 14 games and has recorded at least one hit in the last seven games.
  • The Tigers improved to 12-2 on the season and are winners of their last 11 games.

 
UP NEXT
The Tigers travel to Geneva, N.Y. tomorrow (Mar. 22) for a doubleheader against Hobart. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
