Women's Lacrosse beats Vassar, 18-13
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior Jenna Bovenzi scored a career-high three goals to lead the Tigers to an 18-13 win over Vassar, Saturday.
Junior Zoe Heffernan finished with two goals and tied her career-high with four assists and junior Morgan Nichter scored four goals. Seniors Lily DePalma and juniors Adele Jones each scored three goals. Junior Kate Trojan scored two goals, and junior Grace Validzic scored a goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- DePalma scored early in the first quarter off an assist from Nichter to give RIT the lead.
- Vassar ran off four straight goals, taking a 4-1 lead on Amelia Poirier's tally with 8:42 to play in the opening frame.
- Nichter scored to make it 4-2 and Poirier scored her third goal of the first quarter to give Vassar a 5-2 lead.
- DePalma scored to cut Vassar's lead to 5-3 followed by a Heffernan goal with 1:37 to play in the first that cut the Brewer's lead to 6-4.
- RIT outscored Vassar 4-0 in the second quarter. Bovenzi, Trojan, Jones and Nichter each scored in the quarter.
- Nichter's goal with 46 seconds to play gave RIT an 8-6 lead at halftime.
- Tess Billings scored early in the third quarter to cut RIT's lead to 8-7.
- Jones scored to make it 9-8 followed by a Sigrid Fredlund goal with 11:18 remaining to make it 9-8.
- RIT scored three straight goals, taking a 12-8 lead on Trojan's goal with 7:43 to play in the third.
- Vassar's Siena Wong scored back-to-back goals, cutting the Tiger's lead to 12-10 on her tally with 5:19 remaining.
- Jones scored with 4:07 to play to give RIT a 13-10 lead.
- Fredlund and Poirier tallied consecutive goals, making it a one-goal game on Poirier's goal with 1:32 to play in the third.
- RIT began the fourth quarter with a four-goal run, including two straight from Bovenzi. Heffernan scored midway through the quarter to extend the Tiger's a 17-12 lead.
- Poirier scored to make it 17-13 and Nichter scored with 2:03 remaining to make it an 18-13 final.

- RIT outshot Vassar, 40-25
- Junior Ellie Ruddy finished with five saves to earn the win in net
- Jones led RIT with seven draw controls and sophomore Katherine Killian had five.
- Killian had three caused turnovers and five ground balls
- RIT was 20-of-21 on clearing attempts and won 18-of-34 draw controls
- This is the Tigers first win over Vassar since 2019
