Softball falls to Alfred, 9-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team fell to visiting Alfred, 9-2, Tuesday afternoon.

Originally scheduled for a double-header, game-two was called due to lightning in the area with RIT leading, 4-1, in the middle of the fourth.

  • In game one, first-year Sylvia White went 3-for-4 while senior Kristin Hino and first-year Carlianna Ewing each knocked in a run apiece.
  • Alfred brought two runs across on a hit and pair of errors in the first inning, and scored two more times in the second on a two-run home run by Kendall Steward for a 4-0 lead.
  • The Saxons plated three more runs on two hits and two errors for a 7-0 lead after four innings.
  • RIT scored twice in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Maddy Cook knocked a lead-off single to center and later advanced to third on a Alfred throwing error on an infield single by senior Erin Ozminkowski. After sophomore Emma Merkley drew a walk to load the bases, Cook came home after Hino was hit by a pitch before Ozminkowski came home on a ground-out by Ewing.
  • Alfred got both runs back in the top of the sixth to retake the final seven-run lead, 9-2.
  • First-year Addison Hill took the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) while striking out two.
