Softball opens Liberty League Tournament play on Thursday
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team heads to RPI on Thursday to kick off the first day of the Liberty League Tournament.
The fourth-seeded Tigers will face fifth-seeded St Lawrence at 10:00 a.m. in a play-in game with the winner advancing to play top-seeded RPI in game-one of the four-team double-elimination portion of the tournament.
- RIT qualified for the Liberty League Tournament for the first time since 2017 after compiling a 6-8 conference mark during the regular season, including a two-game split opposite visiting St. Lawrence (Apr. 12). The Tigers earned a 13-5, five-inning victory in the opener before falling, 11-1 (5 inn.) in the rematch.
- First-year Maria Minemier enters the postseason ranked fourth in the conference with a .400 batting average and is second for the Tigers with 17 RBI. She is also fifth among Liberty League batters with a .468 on-base percentage while ranking seventh with a .523 slugging percentage and a .990 OPS.
- Junior Maddy Cook leads the Tigers with 36 hits and 25 RBI, and is tied for first with six doubles and two homeruns. She also ranks 13th in the league with a .346 batting average and is 10th with 52 total bases.
- Sophomore Jessica Majot owns an 8-7 record in the circle this spring. She ranks fourth in the conference with 72 strikeouts while compiling a 2.13 ERA and is tied for second in the league with 16 complete games.
- Junior Erin Ozminkowski is batting .311 this season and is tied for second on the squad with 17 runs, is second with 32 hits, tied for first with two homeruns and fourth with 15 RBI.
- First-year Emma Merkley is batting .318 with 16 runs, 28 hits, four doubles, and 13 RBI.
