Baseball places seven on 2024 Liberty League All-Conference Team
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Seven members of the RIT baseball team were named to the 2024 Liberty League Baseball All-Conference team, announced Tuesday, May 14.
Graduate student pitcher Matthew Chase, sophomore first baseman Trent Rapp, sophomore second baseman Jarin Moses and sophomore relief pitcher Luc Rising were first-team selections. Sophomore third baseman Charlie Slaymaker was a second-team selection and graduate student pitcher Alex Slotter along with junior right fielder Adam Marsh were honorable mention picks.
Chase finished sixth in the league for hits allowed with 38 and pitched 43.1 total innings, the third-most among the Tigers' pitching staff. The 2023 Liberty League Tournament Most Outstanding Player struck out a season-high eight batters in 8.1 innings against Ithaca on April 6.
Rapp hit the second-most home runs in the league with six on the year and also was fifth in the league with a .623 slugging percentage. The sophomore first baseman had a team-best .369 batting average, a 1.054 OPS, 33 runs scored, 11 doubles, six home runs, 31 RBI and a .431 on-base percentage. Rapp had a career-high 5 RBI against Clarkson on March 30 and hit four home runs within three games at the end of March.
Moses finished sixth in the league for assists with 82 and had 137 at-bats, the 10th-best in the league. The sophomore second baseman scored a season-high five runs against Keuka on March 27. Moses ended the season with 40 hits and 24 RBI, both the third-best among RIT.
Rising led the league with a 2.00 ERA, was tied for first in the league with eight walks allowed and tied for third with three saves. The sophomore relief pitcher led the Tigers' pitching staff with a .164 opposing batting average, 20 hits allowed, nine runs allowed and eight earned runs allowed. Rising struck out three batters in 1.1 innings pitched against Rochester on April 26.
Slaymaker hit four home runs this season, the second-most on the team and was third on the team in RBI with 27. The sophomore third baseman had a season-high 4 RBI against Scranton on February 25.
Slotter finished the season tied for fourth in the league with four wins, sixth in strikeouts with 53 and 10th with 50.2 innings pitched. The graduate student pitcher struck out a season-high nine batters in 5.0 innings against Illinois Tech on March 10.
Marsh had the ninth-most hits in the league and a team-best 47 hits. The junior right fielder finished the season second on the team with a .346 batting average, a .868 OPS, 136 at-bats and a .456 slugging percentage. He also had the third-best on-base percentage on the team at .412. Marsh went 3-for-4 with a season-high 5 RBI against Clarkson on March 30.
RIT finished the season with a 15-20 record and fell to Union 2-1 in the best-of-three Liberty League Crossover Series.
