Women's Volleyball defeats Brooklyn, 3-1, Rutgers-Newark, 3-1

NEWARK, N.J. – The RIT Women's Volleyball team swept both ends of a tri-match at Rutgers-Newark, Saturday, defeating Brooklyn College, 3-1 (19-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-12), and the host Scarlett Raiders, 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-16).

  • RIT trailed, 7-0, to start the first set and later trailed, 17-10, before riding a 10-3 run to pull back within three, 20-17. Brooklyn scored five of the final seven points to take the opener.
  • RIT started the second set with 10-4 lead and later rode a 14-6 surge to a 24-10 lead it would not relinquish.
  • Tied, 12-12, in the third, RIT put together a decisive 13-4 run, including four Wasula kills, to take the set.
  • Tied, 11-11, to start the fourth, the Tigers finished the set with 14-1 run, including seven Wasula kills, to close the match.

  • RIT led, 12-11, in the first set before Rutgers-Newark rode an 11-4 run to a 22-16 lead it would not relinquish.
  • RIT bounced back to take the second, riding an 8-3 run to a 13-9 lead. Rutgers-Newark battled back within three, 18-15, but the Tigers scored eight of the final 11 points to even the match.   
  • Leading, 11-4, in the third, the Tigers pushed their lead to 21-10 following a 10-6 surge that proved decisive.
  • RIT led, 11-4, to start the fourth, before Rutgers-Newark bounced back with a 6-3 surge to trail, 14-10. The Tigers put the match away with an 11-6 run to earn the victory.

RIT heads to Liberty League-rival William Smith on Wednesday (Oct. 29) for a 6:00 p.m. match.
