Men's Cross Country takes fourth at Liberty League Championships

CANTON, N.Y. – RIT junior Derick Koen led the men's cross country team to fourth place by crossing the finish line eighth out of 111 runners with a time of 25:05.7 at the Liberty League Championships, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Koen's top-ten finish is the fourth of the season and best finish at the conference race of his career.
  • Senior Jeffrey Gibbs (25.55.2) and junior Evan Owens (26:00.0) placed 23rd and 24th for the Tigers.  
  • Sophomore Jackson Burger took 38th (26:36.8) and first-year Brandon Blandino placed 39th (26:39.1) to round out the top five runners for RIT.
  • The Tigers tallied 108 points as RPI cruised to the win with 21 points. St. Lawrence was second with 73 points and Vassar placed third with 92 points.  St. Lawrence's Nicholas Lyndaker won the race (24:35.3), crossing the finish line seven seconds ahead of RPI's Vince Simonetti (24.42.2).

RIT has two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championship (Nov. 16), which will take place at Lake Erie State Park and is hosted by Fredonia.
