ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT graduate student midfielder John Mozrall will receive the Rich Funke Jr. College Male Athlete of the Year Award at the Rochester Press Radio Club's Celebration of Champions at Innovative Field on Tuesday (June 11).
Mozrall helped lead RIT to a 21-2 record in 2023, leading the Tigers to its 11th straight Liberty League Tournament crown and the automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament. He was a USILA First Team All-American and First Team All-Liberty League selection and led the league averaging 1.91 assists per game.
He finished third on the team in scoring recording career-highs in points (65), goals (21) points and led the Tigers with a career-best 44 assists. Mozrall scored at least one point in 21-of-23 games in 2023, recording a season-high six points on three goals and three assists against St. Lawrence in the 2023 Liberty League Semifinal.
He tied his career-high with four assists against Union in the Liberty League Championship and tallied three goals and three assists in four NCAA Tournament games, including two goals and an assist against Babson in the third round and a goal and an assist against Tufts in the semifinal.
Mozrall excelled in the classroom, earning 2023 USILA Scholar All-American and Liberty League All-Academic accolades.
Mozrall finished his career tied for 21st in career scoring at RIT with 167 points and is 10th in career assists with 106 assists. A two-time co-captain, Mozrall has helped lead RIT to a 102-8 overall record since 2019, including back-to-back NCAA Division III National Championships (2021, 2022) and four Liberty League Tournament titles.
Mozrall and 13 other local sports and community members will be honored at the Celebration of Champions at the Rochester Red Wings game at Innovative Field. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with a 6:45 p.m. first pitch.
