Three Tigers land Liberty League weekly honors
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Three RIT student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League with weekly honors, announced Monday. First-year Kathryn Baretela was the Softball Rookie of the Week, while sophomore Sadie Rose was the Women's Track Performer of the Week. On the men's side, junior Clifford Gaston was the Men's Lacrosse Offensive Performer of the Week.
Baretela hit .571, scored six runs and had six RBI to help RIT to a 2-3-1 record last week. She went 8-of-14 from the plate and had four triples a double and a home run. Baretela had a pinch-hit three-tun home run in a 14-6 loss to Houghton, Monday. Her HR in the bottom of the third inning gave RIT a 6-4 lead. She went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and drove in two runs in a 10-10 tie in game two against Houghton. She went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored in Wednesday's game two loss to St. John Fisher. Baretela went 1-for-3 with a triple in game one and 1-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in game two of a sweep against Elmira, Friday.
Rose set program-record times in the 200 and 400 meters at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational, Saturday. She won the 200 in a time of 24.95 and was victorious in the 400 in a time of 57.06, qualifying for the Atlantic Regional Championships in the 400.
Gaston led No. 4 RIT with 14 points on nine goals and five assists to lead the Tigers to a 2-0 record last week. He tied his career-high tallying eight points on six goals and two assists in the Tiger's 20-14 win over Cortland, Wednesday. Gaston scored three goals and had three assists in RIT's 30-4 win over Vassar, Saturday.
