Six Things You Need to Know About the 2024 Women's Lacrosse Team

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's lacrosse team opens its 2024 season on Thursday (Feb. 22) against Geneseo. Here the six things you need to know about the Tigers heading into the season.
 
1. A LOOK BACK ON 2023
RIT won four games last season. Five of RIT's losses were by one goal. The Tigers lost nine seniors including Second Team All-Liberty League goalie, Michelle Messenger and Baylee West (21g, 22p).
 
2. NEWCOMERS
RIT adds four newcomers including three first-years to the roster. First year defender Katherine Killian, first year midfielder Sarah Hallinan and first year attack Emma Ripley join sophomore defender Emma Scott and sophomore goalie Em Scheuer on the 2024 roster.
 
3. WHEN THE TIGERS HAVE THE BALL
Sophomore attack Adele Jones was second on the team with 30 points (15g, 15a), while senior co-captain Carrissa Hlywa finished third on the team with a career-high 23 points (17g, 6a). Sophomore Serafina Kiselgof finished tied for fifth in scoring with 20 points (16g, 4a). Junior midfielder Lily DePalma (12g, 5a) and sophomore attack Kate Trojan (15g, 3a) and sophomore midfielder Morgan Nichter (7g, 2a) all contributed on the offensive side last season. Sophomore Rachel Kulp moves from defense to midfield in 2024.
 
4. DEFENSE…DEFENSE
Senior co-captain Claire Templeton will lead the defense in 2024. She finished tied for third on the team with nine caused turnovers last season to go along with 11 ground balls. Junior Jane Hudson tied Templeton with nine caused turnovers and scooped up 13 ground balls. Killian will see time on defense as well.
 
5. GOALIE
Sophomore Ellie Ruddy gets the nod as the starting goalie after a strong preseason. She played in two games last season, making five saves. Sophomore goalie Em Scheuer will vie for time in net.
 
6. 2024 SCHEDULE
Fifth-year head coach Erin Wagner and the Tigers are scheduled to play 15 regular season games, including 10 in the Liberty League. The Tigers will play six games at home and nine on the road. RIT will play two teams that participated in the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament (William Smith and Geneseo) and one team ranked in the IWLCA Division III poll (William Smith – No. 3).
 
RIT plays six non-conference games beginning February 22 against Geneseo. The Tigers play at Nazareth (March 2) before returning home against Brockport (March 6). RIT heads to San Juan, Puerto Rico over Spring Break for a pair of non-conference games against Bridgewater State (March 9) and Chatham (March 10).
 
RIT begins Liberty League play at home against Ithaca (March 16). The Tigers host Skidmore (March 22) and Union the following day. The Tigers end March with a Liberty League road game at RPI (March 30).
 
April begins with a pair of conference road games at Bard (April 5) and Vassar (April 6). The Tigers travel to Rochester (April 10) before returning home to host Clarkson (April 13). RIT finishes the regular season at William Smith (April 17) and at St. Lawrence (April 27).
