#18/19 Men's Hockey falls, 5-2, to #8/8 Maine in Ledyard Classic opener

HANOVER, N.H. – No. 18/19 RIT lost a 5-2 decision to No. 8/8 Maine in the opening game of the Ledyard Classic at Dartmouth, Friday.
 
Junior forward Carter Wilkie and first-year forward Matthew Wilde each scored a goal, while junior goaltender Tommy Scarfone was credited with 33 saves in the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Maine opened the scoring at 3:06 of the first after Brandon Chabrier scored on a long one-timer from the top-right corner of the zone past a screened Scarfone.
  • Wilkie tied the game 1:34 into the second period, pouncing on a loose puck on the left boards in the neutral zone and splitting two Black Bear defenders at the blue line to beat goaltender Victor Ostman, stick side.
  • Maine responded with three goals in a 3:39 span for a 4-1 lead with 11:04 left in the period.
  • RIT got one back on the power play with 8:05 on the clock after senior Cody Laskosky fed Wilde in the slot for a goal inside the left post.
  • The teams played a scoreless third period before Maine tacked on an empty-net goal with 16.9 seconds left. 

GAME NOTES

  • Maine out-shot RIT, 38-16, holding the Tigers to two shots on goal in the third period.
  • Scarfone logged his 28th-career game with at least 30 saves, including 18 in the second period.
  • RIT held Maine scoreless on five power-play attempts, including a five-minute major at the end of the second period. The Tigers scored one power-play on six attempts.
  • Wilkie scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season and 35th of his career.
  • Laskosky added team-high 11th assist of the season.
  • Wilde netted his sixth goal of the season. 

WHAT'S NEXT
The Tigers await either the host Big Green or Lake Superior State in Saturday's second round at a time to be determined.
