Men's Basketball beats Elmira, 83-61

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior guard Matt Caggiano scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Tigers to an 83-61 win over Elmira, Saturday in game two of the Brodie Classic.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Elmira's Tyler Cardello scored with 7:38 remaining in the first half to give the Soaring Eagles a 28-19 lead.
  • Senior guard Brock Bowen hit a three-pointer with 4:50 to play that cut the Elmira lead to 30-27 and again on the Tigers' next possession to tie the score at 30-30, capping off an 11-2 RIT run.
  • First-year guard Zac Ditzel tied the game at 35-35 on his fast break bucket with 1:32 to play in the half.
  • Bowen hit back-to-back three-pointers in the final 38 seconds, including one at the buzzer to give the Tigers a 41-36 halftime lead.
  • Caggiano scored on a jump shot with 17:15 to play in the second half to extend the RIT lead to 48-38.
  • Ditzel drained a three-pointer with 14:36 remaining to give RIT a 55-42 lead.
  • First-year guard Brody Brown scored with 10:02 to play to give the Tigers a 63-46 lead, while junior forward Josiah Turner scored with 3:55 to play to give RIT its largest lead of the game at 82-59.
  • Brandon Weiss scored with 27 seconds to play to make it an 83-62 final.

 
GAME NOTES

  • RIT shot 32-of-63 (50.8 percent) from the floor, including 12 three-pointers
  • Bowen finished with 15 points and was an All-Tournament Team selection
  • Junior forward Jackson Otis had 14 points, while Brown finished with 10 points
  • The Tigers scored 32 points in the paint and 11 points off of nine Elmira turnovers
