Softball sweeps Elmira, 6-3 and 9-7

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team swept a double header against Elmira, winning 6-3 and 9-7, Friday.
 
GAME ONE (RIT 6, Elmira 3)

  • Junior Maddy Cook went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, while junior Lillian Rienstra went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • RIT scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cook hit a one-out triple, plating first-year Emma Merkley and Rienstra. Cook scored on a groundout by junior Erin Ozminkowski.
  • The Tigers added another run in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead. Rienstra hit an RBI single up the middle, plating senior Elise Guth from second.
  • Cook had an RBI single to left field, scoring Guth from third to give RIT a 5-0 lead.
  • Elmira plated three runs in the top of the sixth. Jocelyn Jean had a pinch-hit single, scoring Katie Distefano. Jean scored on a wild pitch and Kendall McAnelly scored on a pinch-hit single from Riley Storrs to cut the RIT lead to 5-3.
  • RIT added another run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-3 lead. First-year Kathryn Baretela led off the inning with a triple, scoring on a fielder's choice from Kristin Hino.
  • Sophomore pitcher Jessica Majot allowed three runs on three hits, striking out three to improve to 3-0.

 
GAME TWO (RIT 9, Elmira 7)

  • Cook went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Minemeir went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Rienstra had two hits and drove in two runs.
  • RIT scored one run in the bottom half of the first inning on a RBI single from Cook, plating Guth.
  • Elmira scored three times in the top of the second. Bri Ramstrine led off inning with a triple. She scored on an RBI single from Hannah Flagg. Distefano scored on a single by Jean, while Flagg scored on an RBI single from Asia Curkendall to give the Soaring Eagles a 3-1 lead.
  • The Tigers scored once in the bottom of the third. Junior Bailey Kehl singled, advanced to third on an error and scored on a fielding error to cut Elmira's lead to 3-2.
  • RIT added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rienstra hit a two-out RBI single, plating Guth and Pioggia to give RIT a 4-3 lead.
  • Osminkowski singled and scored on a triple from Baretela in the home half of the fifth. She scored on a single by first-year Maria Minemeir to give RIT a 6-3 lead.
  • The Tigers scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Minemier had a two-out, two RBI double to give the Tigers a 9-3 lead.
  • Elmira scored seven runs in the top of the seventh. Jean led off the inning with double. She advanced scored on an RBI single from Ramstine.
  • Curkendall scored on an RBI single from Distefano and Ramstine scored on a fielder's choice. Madi Brown-Bloom scored when Bella DeAmelia was hit by a pitch to cut the Tiger's lead to 9-7.
  • Junior Lexi Pieri got the win on the mound, allowing four runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
