No. 4 Men's Lacrosse downs Vassar, 30-4
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior midfielder Cameron Gebhardt scored a career-high four goals to lead the No. 4 Tigers to a 30-4 win over Vassar in Liberty League action, Saturday, tying the program record for goals in a game.
Graduate student attack Jake Erickson had a goal and five assists, while junior attack Clifford Gaston tallied three goals and three assists. Senior defenseman Michael Grace scored a career-high three goals.
Sophomores Cole Teeple and Bailey Beakes and first-years Evan Wright and Sam Wallace each scored their first collegiate goals. Wallace finished with three goals, while graduate student attack Luke Pilcher had two goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Kaden Brunson had a goal and an assist and graduate student midfielder John Mozrall scored two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Grace scored the first two goals in a five-goal RIT run to begin the game. Mozrall scored off a feed from Gaston to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead.
- Vassar's Nate Johnson scored with 9:39 to play in the opening quarter to cut RIT's lead to 5-1.
- Junior attack Ethan Harkins, senior midfielder Dylan Bruno and Pilcher each scored in the closing minutes of the quarter to extend the Tiger's lead to 8-1.
- RIT outscored the Brewers 11-2 in the second quarter. Gaston and Erickson each had five points in the frame, while Gebhardt scored three times.
- Grace scored his third of the game from the face-off "X" just before the halftime buzzer sounded to give the Tigers a 19-3 halftime lead.
- The Tigers outscore the Brewers 8-1 in the third quarter. Wallace scored two goals in the quarter, while junior midfielder Michael Finneran had two assists.
- Finneran, Wallace and Beakes each scored in the fourth quarter to make it a 30-4 final.
GAME NOTES:
- RIT's 30 goals are the most goals scored in a game since the Tigers scored 30 against Niagara in 1997.
- RIT outshot Vassar, 65-29.
- The Tigers went 23-of-24 on clears and went 1-for-1 on man-up.
- Sophomore goalie Alex Zborowski made seven saves to improve to 9-1 on the season. He recorded his first career point, assisting on Grace's goal as time expired in the first half.
- Graduate student face-off specialist Allyn French won 8-of-9 face-offs and had six ground balls. Sophomore Ethan Spillane won 10 draws and had six ground balls, while junior Jack Budway had six ground balls.
- Pilcher moved into fifth all-time in career scoring with 242 career points, passing Ryan Barnable '22 (240 pts.).
