Women's Volleyball falls to St. Lawrence, 3-1, in Liberty League opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Women's Volleyball team opened Liberty League play with a 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-18) setback to visiting St. Lawrence, Friday.
 
RIT LEADERS

  • First-year Anna Wasula led the Tigers with a match-high 15 kills to go along with seven digs ad four service aces.
  • First-year libero Isabelle Swain totaled a match-high 17 digs.
  • First-year Sofia Leon compiled 15 assists and 10 digs to go along with three assisted blocks and a pair of service aces. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tied, 8-8, in the first set, RIT rode a 7-1 run to a 15-9 lead before the Saints scored five-consecutive points to pull back within one, 15-14. The Tigers responded with a 6-1 surge, including four Wasula kills, for a decisive 21-15 lead.
  • St. Lawrence opened a three-point lead on three occasions early in the second set, including 13-10, but RIT came back to take an 18-16 lead following a 8-3 run. The Saints bounced back with a 7-2 run for a 23-20 lead before trading four points to even the match.
  • Tied, 10-10, in the third, St. Lawrence used an 8-1 run to take a 18-11 lead. RIT came back with a 9-3 run to pull back withing one, 21-20, and later scored three straight points to tied the score, 23-23. After trading two points apiece, St. Lawrence notched back-to-back kills to take the set.
  • St. Lawrence started the fourth set with a 9-3 lead and led by as many as seven on four occasions, including 18-11. The Tigers rode a 7-2 surge back within two, 20-18, but the Saints finished the set with five unanswered points to complete the victory.
