Women's Soccer gets past No. 17 William Smith, 3-2
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior forward Elena Onodera scored two goals early in the second half to propel the RIT women's soccer team past nationally ranked No. 17 William Smith, 3-2, Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The visiting Herons opened the scoring in the 5th minute when Charlotte Brown found the net off assists from Addison Stockwin and Ruth Hotaling.
- RIT equalized in the 42nd minute when first-year midfielder Bella Coccio scored her second goal of the season, assisted by junior Lindsay Ford.
- Onodera gave RIT the lead in the 47th minute with an unassisted goal before adding her second of the game just four minutes later by converting a penalty kick in the 51st minute.
- William Smith pulled one back in the 68th minute with a goal from Ruth Hotaling, assisted by Kelsey Otridge and Nell Dwyer.
GAME NOTES
- RIT out shot William Smith, 14-to-12, with both teams recording six shots on goal.
- Onodera led RIT with two goals on a game-high four shots, all on target.
- Coccio tallied her second goal of the season.
- RIT senior goalkeeper Emily Sanchez made four saves in the win.
- With the win, the Tigers earned their first victory over William Smith in 50 all-time meetings dating back to the first season of the program in 1982.
- RIT improves its record to 5-0-3 overall and 2-0-0 in the Liberty League.
