Men's Hockey takes down Colgate, 3-1
HAMILTON, N.Y. – RIT first-year forward William Moore scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the Tigers' 3-1 victory at Colgate, Friday night.
Moore broke a 1-1 tie with 6:00 minutes remaining in regulation before senior forward Simon Isabelle tacked on an empty-net goal with 9.9 seconds on the clock to seal the win. Senior forward Tyler Mahan opened the scoring early in the first period with his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Sophomore goaltender Jakub Krbecek won his fourth-straight game, stopping 14 of the 15 shots he saw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT got on the board at 6:49 of the first. After the Tigers won a faceoff in the Colgate zone, sophomore defenseman Ryan Wiliams cycled a puck from the top left corner of the zone down the blue line to Allen along the opposite boards. Allen whipped a wrist shot on goal that was initially saved off Raider goaltender Reid Dyck's pads, but Mahan corralled the loose puck and scored inside the left post.
- Colgate responded at 11:22 with a power play goal following a Tiger hooking call. Michael Neumeier took a puck, end to end, splitting the RIT defense to score, bar down, over Krbecek.
- The game was scoreless until Moore blocked a shot at the top of the RIT zone and chased down the loose puck in the neutral zone for a rush the other way. Moore split two defenders on his way to the goal before hitting the brakes on the crease and jamming a backhander inside the left post at 14:00.
- RIT sealed the game in the final seconds after first-year forward Zach Wigle knocked a pass down to senior forward Austin Brimmer to create a rush the other way, finished by Isabelle.
