No. 3 Men's Lacrosse wins 22-13 against Ithaca
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior Luke Pilcher scored five goals to lead the No. 3 Tigers to a 22-13 win over Ithaca, Wednesday.
Sophomore Jack Budway scored a career-high three goals, while senior TJ Hendricks and junior Michael Finneran each scored two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pilcher scored twice in a seven-goal first quarter for RIT. Seniors Spencer Bell and Zeb Hollinger, Budway, junior Ian Dinga and first-year Chase Bruno each scored as the Tigers jumped out to a 7-1 lead.
- The Tigers scored the first four goals of the second quarter, taking an 11-1 lead on senior John Mozrall's goal with 10:01 to play in the half. Finneran, senior Sean Traynor and Pilcher also scored.
- Charlie Niebuhr scored for Ithaca with 9:42 to play in the second to break the Tigers' run.
- RIT extended its lead to 16-2 with a five-goal run. Pilcher scored twice in the Tigers run, while Hendricks, Budway and senior Joe Camp also scored.
- Niebuhr scored two straight for Ithaca to cut the RIT lead to 14-6 late in the half, but Hendricks scored off an assist from Pilcher with three seconds remaining to give RIT a 17-4 lead at halftime.
- Ithaca outscored RIT 6-2 in the third quarter, cutting the RIT lead to 17-9 on Graham Brady's goal with 4:47 to play in the quarter, while first-year Tyson Allison and Finneran each scored for RIT in the frame.
- Senior Josh Hamill scored twice in the fourth for RIT, while Budway tallied his third of the game, while Ithaca scored three times including a goal from Jake Erickson with 2:48 remaining to make it a 22-13 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT outshot Ithaca, 58-31.
- RIT had 42 ground balls and went 22-of-24 on clearing attempts.
- RIT graduate student goalie Will Sterrett made four saves to earn the win.
- Graduate student Taylor Jensen caused two turnovers and had five ground balls.
- Senior Ethan Stiles won 10-of-12 draws and had seven ground balls.
