Women's Hockey falls at No. 14 Northeastern, 3-2
BOSTON – RIT junior Addie Alvarez and sophomore Ireland Stein each scored goals, but it was No. 14 Northeastern coming back for a 3-2 victory over the visiting Tigers, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT took a 1-0 lead 2:50 into the first period. Sophomore Zoe Ziotas cleared a puck into the neutral zone to senior Jaidan Fahrny, who broke the other way with Alvarez for a two-on-one break. Alvarez finished a feed in front of the right post with a shot under NU goaltender Lisa Jonnsson's pads to complete the rush.
- Northeastern evened the score at 11:05 after Eloise Caron fed Morgan Jackson from behind the left post for a finish over Tiger senior goaltender Sophia Bellina's shoulder, far post.
- RIT retook a 2-1 lead at 17:06. Fahrny jumped on a loose puck at the top of the RIT zone and skated to the top of the left faceoff circle. A pass by Fahrny deflected off a Northeastern defender into the slot where Stein spun off a defender and snapped a shot under Jonnsson's pads inside the right post.
- The Huskies retied scored at 2:06 of the second after Allie Lalonde won a facoff to the left of Bellina back to Ella Loyd, who skated to the point and scored on a long wrist shot under Bellinsa's glove.
- Northeastern scored what proved to be the game winner at 4:00 of the third on the power play following a Tiger tripping minor. Cycling the puck to the right point, Lily Shannon threw a pass down low outside the left post for a shot by Morgan Jackson off Bellina's pads. The loose puck deflected through a crowd on the crease and landed behind Bellina in front of the right post for a short tap-in by Caron.
