When the U.S. celebrates Hispanic culture and heritage, the spotlight is typically on food, music, dance, cultural traditions, and pioneers uplifted for their achievements. We all inhabit numerous, complex identities – some which we have chosen for ourselves and some others have imposed on us. So what does it mean to be Latin American in the U.S. today? To be immigrant, citizen, noncitizen, resident, migrant, first generation, undocumented, or asylum-seeker?
