Women's Soccer places five on 2023 Liberty League All-Conference Team
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Five members of the RIT women's soccer team were named to the 2023 Liberty League Women's Soccer All-Conference Team, announced Tuesday, Nov. 7.
First-year midfielder Emma Pedro was named Liberty League Rookie of the Year, the second consecutive year the Tigers' have won this award. Sophomore forward Elena Onodera and senior midfielder Jessie Gomez were first-team selections, while junior forward Olivia Harris and junior defender Amber Flynn were second-team selections.
Pedro played all 18 games in her first season with the Tigers and is fourth in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist. Pedro was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week, Oct. 16 after scoring the game-tying goal against Skidmore in the 88th minute. She also scored the game-tying goal against William Smith during the regular season.
Onodera leads the team with a career-high 15 points on six goals, including the game-winner against Wheaton (IL), and three assists. She has started all 18 games this season and has a .561 shots on goal percentage.
Gomez is third in scoring with 12 points off of five goals, including a team-high three game-winning goals, and two assists. She earned Liberty League Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week twice this season after scoring a game-winning goal against Clarkson (Sept. 23) and a game-tying goal against Nazareth (Oct. 3).
A 2023 Second Team All-Liberty League selection, Harris is second on the team in scoring with 13 points on four goals and five assists, all career-highs. Harris assisted Onodera's game-winning goal against Wheaton (Sept. 8). and assisted two game-tying goals against William Smith (Sept. 20) and Nazareth (Oct. 3).
Another 2023 Second Team All-Liberty League selection, Flynn started in all 18 games this season and leads the team in minutes played with 1,596. Flynn scored her first collegiate goal against Union (Oct. 21).
RIT is 8-5-5 overall and earned its fifth berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers will travel to Massachusetts to take on host-team Babson on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 1:00 p.m. in a first-round contest.
