Women's Soccer earns NCAA Tournament At-Large Berth
ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's soccer team received an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament and will travel to Massachusetts to face Babson in the first round.
The winner will advance to play either Amherst or Maine Maritime in a second-round matchup, with all dates and times to be announced.
RIT will make its fifth NCAA Tournament and second consecutive appearance. The Tigers hosted first and second-round games last season, defeating Johnson and Wales (R.I.), 3-1, before falling to Amherst (Mass.), 1-0.
RIT averages 1.56 goals per game and outscored its opponents, 28-17. Sophomore forward Elena Onodera leads the team with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Junior midfielder Olivia Harris is second on the team in scoring with 13 points on four goals and five assists. First-year midfielder Emma Pedro has scored three goals for the Tigers this season, two of which were game-tying goals against William Smith and Skidmore during the regular season. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Sanchez recorded eight shutouts this season with a .745 save percentage and a .86 goals allowed average.
Babson lost to MIT, 5-0, in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference finals. The Beavers return to the NCAA tournament for the second time in program history and enter the weekend with a 12-6-3 record.
Babson averages 1.76 goals per game, outscoring their opponents, 37-33. Junior forward Jordyn Ferrantino leads the Beavers with 25 points on 11 goals and three assists. Graduate student forward Morgan Krauss is second on the team with 19 points (6g, 7a) and senior midfielder Cassie Lawson is third with 14 points (5g, 4a).
The Beavers allow 1.59 including goals per game, including five shutouts. First-year goalkeeper Callahan Cottone is 6-5-1 this season and has allowed 18 goals this season, with a 1.50 goals allowed average and a .793 save percentage. Junior goalkeeper Nora Ryan is 6-1-2 this season, allowing 15 goals with a 1.75 goals allowed average and a .797 save percentage.
This will be the first matchup between the RIT and Babson.
