Women's Hockey earns a spot in the CHA Tournament with a 1-1 tie at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – RIT first year forward Addie Alvarez tallied a goal in the Tigers 1-1 tie at Penn State, Saturday. The Tigers qualify for the College Hockey America Tournament for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore goalie Sophia Bellina made 15 saves in a scoreless first period.
  • Alvarez scored at 15:43 of the second period, tallying her eighth goal of the season to give RIT the lead.
  • Penn State's Alyssa Machado tied the game at 1-1 on her goal at 17:41 of the second.
  • Bellina made 12 stops in the third period and made six saves in overtime.

 
 
GAME NOTES

  • RIT's 13 wins is the most wins by the Tigers in a season since 2019-20 (12)
  • Penn State outshot RIT, 44-19
  • Bellina made 43 saves in net for the Tigers to improve to 10-8-1 on the season.
  • Senior forward Lindsay Maloney had five of the Tiger's 21 blocked shots
  • RIT will face top-seeded Penn State in the CHA best-of-three semifinal series.
