Men's Hockey doubled up by Army, 4-2
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Tyler Fukakusa notched a goal and an assist, but it was visiting Army earning a 4-2 win over the Tigers in Atlantic Hockey America action, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT got on the board at 13:39 of the first following a defensive zone faceoff win by Fukakusa. First-year defenseman Tristan Allen pushed a pass to sophomore forward Christian Catalano in the neutral zone, who backhanded a pass to Fukakusa on the right wing blue line. Fukaskusa skated to the top of the faceoff circle and wristed a shot on goal that glanced off a Black Knight defender and through goaltender JJ Cataldo's pads for the lone goal of the opening period.
- Army scored twice during a two-minute stretch of the second to build a 2-1 lead. Vincent Salice dug a puck off the end boards behind the Tiger goal to Barron Woodring in the left faceoff circle. Woodring backhanded a pass to the opposite faceoff circle where Mac Gadowsky one-timed a shot into the top-right corner of the goal at 6:16.
- Same Groebner later skated through the middle of the neutral zone and dropped a pass to Gadowsky along the left half boards. Gadowsky skated over the blue line and sent a long pass behind the Tiger defense that Groebner was able to get a stick on and tip under RIT first-year goaltender Jakub Krbecek's glove at 8:15 of the second.
- RIT retied the game with a power-play goal at 17:49 following an Army slashing penalty. Fukakusa send a pass from the left faceoff circle to Catalano below the goal line. Catalano one-touched a pass to sophomore forward Matthew Wilde in the slot for a one-timer over Cataldo's glove with only 23 seconds elapsed on the extra man.
- Army answered 41 seconds later for a 3-2 lead after two periods. Michael Sacco collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and hustled along the left wing for what turned into a two-on-one break. Sacco crossed a pass through the slot to Gadowsky, who scored on a one-timer from the right faceoff circle past a diving Krbecek.
- Army put the game out of reach 4:13 into the third period despite skating shorthanded following a five-minute contact to the head major in the closing seconds of the second period. Nik Hong won a faceoff to the left of the RIT net to Ben Ivey in the slot. Ivey backhanded a pass back to Hong outside the left post, who scored on a short tip behind Krbecek.
