Wrestling competes at Mideast Futures
EWING, N.J. – RIT first-year Bryson Vaughn won the 141 lb. weight class at the Mideast Futures at The College of New Jersey, Sunday.
Vaughn beat Ryan Mansueto with a technical fall in his opening match. He defeated Joey Coppola with a 15-0 technical fall and pinned Shane Walczyk with a pin at 6:25 in the semifinal and defeated sophomore Isaiah Shafer, 6-5 to win the title.
Shafer defeated Luke Yorke with a 15-8 decision in his opening match. He beat Rocco Futia with an 18-8 technical fall at 5:33 in the semifinal, before falling to Vaughn, 6-5 in the championship match.
First-year Michael Drazek went 3-1 to place second at 165 lb. He defeated Rex Jacobs, 10-4, Justin Klein (20-7 TF) and Jack Bailey (19-2 TF) before falling to Steven Dalling in the championship match.
Junior Josh Post placed third at 133 lb., beating Mason Livio, 9-5 in his opening match. He defeated Ricky Caamano, 6-3. Post took down Torey Falkingurg with a 9-0 major decision in the quarterfinal before losing 4-2 to Vaughn in the semifinal. He beat Futia with a 9-1 major decision to take third place.
First-year Jacob Deysher placed fourth at 125 lb. He defeated Rocky Finneran with a 16-1 technical fall at 6:27 of his opening match. He downed Carl Santariello with a 19-4 technical fall in his next match, before falling to Aidan Carmody in the semifinal and an 11-7 loss to Christian Leviano in the third-place match.
Junior Aiden Prunoske placed third at 133 lb., while first-year Gurjaan Bhangu placed fourth and first-year Justin Baker placed sixth. He defeated Joel Defreytas with a fall at 3:13 in his opening bout and took down Alexander Tanglia, 12-5 before a loss to Jacob Venezia in the semifinal. Pronoske took third with a medical forfeit from his opponent.
Bhangu beat Kyle Collins, 8-1 and Ethan Washburn, 15-9 before 5-0 loss to Sam Teti in the semifinal. After a loss in his opening match, Baker defeated Jaden Robinson (F,1:37), Arjun Khatri (F, 2:25), Kyle Collins (F, 0:54) before losing in the fifth-place match.
First-year Jared Lee went 3-1 to take third place at 149 lb., defeating Andre Allen with an 8-0 major decision in the third-place match. First-year Carter Tadusz went 3-2 to place fourth at 157 lb.
RIT returns to action on Friday (March 1) at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship at RIT's Gordon Field House at 10:00 a.m.
