PITTSFORD, N.Y. – RIT sophomore Josh Lanka and first year Max Watson each won their weight class at the Cardinal Invitational, Sunday.
Lanka pinned Brockport's Luke Coffin 43 seconds into his opening match at 285 lb. He pinned Cortland's Chris Ayala in the championship bout.
Watson defeated Nassem Smith (Cortland) 18-2 in his opening match. He pinned Brockport's Sam Zeigler in the quarterfinals and defeated sophomore Carter Tadusz 22-6 in the semifinals. Watson was a 7-1 winner over Akio Sanders (Ithaca) in the championship match.
First year Peter Graham finished second at 149 lb. He pinned Ithaca's Aaron Nelson 2:58 into their quarterfinal match. He was a 4-0 winner over Noah Orser (Cortland) in the semifinals before a David Ensminger (Cortland) in the championship match.
First year Kenji Walters placed third at 133 lb. beating Dylan Levine (Maj. 15-3), Hunter Williams (Dec. 9-0) in the consolation semifinals and Levine (Dec. 10-3) in the third-place match.
Tadusz finished third at 157 lb. with wins over Austin Boff (Fall 1:39), Michael Rosenblum (Fall :43) and Shane Walczyk (Fall 4:55) in the third-place match.
First year Ronald Dietz placed third at 197 lb. picking up wins over Nathan Coon (Fall 4:40), Ansar Omarov (Maj. 13-3) and Judson Ferris (Fall 2:16) in the third-place match.
Junior Johnathan Freebern placed fourth at 125 lb., sophomore Mac Davidson placed fifth at 149 lb. and first years Jude Bellantoni (141 lb.) and Antoine Phillips (165 lb.) each placed sixth.
RIT returns to action on Saturday (March 1) at the NCAA Mideast Regional at Lycoming at 10:00 a.m.
